About Laura

As an artist, holistic therapist and expressive art facilitator, my passion and purpose in life is to inspire, heal and help others to discover their true selves.

My Journey

Finding my own true path began with a career in business after graduating with a degree in marketing and art from Illinois State University. Originally from the Midwest, I spent a number of years in England where I began a journey of inner exploration and spiritual growth. This lead to the unveiling of my passion for helping others through the healing arts.

Upon this discovery, I stepped out of the shadow of marketing others to renew my own creative work, and to also become certified in Healing Touch – a holistic energy therapy that restores balance and harmony to the body, mind and spirit. Combining art with healing as an expressive art facilitator was a natural evolution.

My Passion

Through a private practice in southwest Michigan I offer Expressive Art and Healing Touch therapy. I also facilitate Expressive Art classes and workshops for children, adults and those of special needs – working with organizations such as Hospice, Salvation Army, Juvenile Correctional Center, Lighthouse Educational Center (for emotionally impaired), and local colleges and art centers.

As a visual artist, my primary disciplines are acrylic, watercolor and pastel. I also enjoy writing poetry, often portraying the inspirations of my imagery. Published works include artwork and poetry for the 2001 and 2002 calendars by Sisters of St. Joseph/LaGrange, IL, and book covers for White Shadow by Diane Wind Wardell and The Joy is in the Journey by Betty Crowson.

I believe that art is vital for the health and harmony of humanity and feel especially drawn to helping the disadvantaged through art.

"Those that may be causing havoc within our communities or silently suffering in isolation do not know how to experience joy. They know fear, but not love. Yes, they may have a grandmother who loves them dearly and whose heart is breaking over their waywardness. But they have not been able to receive this love, for they have been living in a culture that breeds an incessant need to create barriers of protection. As long as we maintain barriers – barriers to an open heart, we cannot receive. The very act of creating art is receiving – receiving the love that heals. Through art the heart is touched in ways that allow the free expression of feelings and therapeutic release of stress, pain, anger, and trauma. Painting from the heart is healing through art."
